🩹 Tattoo Aftercare
(Tegaderm / Saniderm / DermShield or regular wrap)
1️⃣ Clear Bandage Phase (First 3–5 Days)
Leave the bandage on 3–5 days.
Edges peeling? Totally fine — just make sure it’s not lifting over the tattoo.
Fluid under the film? Normal! That’s your body healing.
No soaking or submerging — avoid swimming, hot tubs, and baths. Showers are fine.
If your bandage leaks or lifts early, remove it and follow the washing steps below.
When ready to remove:
Take it off in the shower under warm water.
Wash gently with Dial Gold or another antibacterial soap.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Apply a small amount of unscented lotion (Lubriderm, Aveeno, Cetaphil, or CeraVe).
🚫 Avoid heavy ointments like Aquaphor, Vaseline, or A&D — they can clog pores and pull out ink.
2️⃣ If You’re Wrapped Instead (No Clear Bandage)
Keep the wrap on at least 2 hours, or overnight if the tattoo is large.
Then wash with Dial Gold, pat dry, and apply a small amount of unscented lotion. (Lubriderm, Aveeno, Cetaphil, or CeraVe).
If it gets really scabby or irritated, you can use a tiny bit of Aquaphor or A&D — think chapstick amount, minimal shine.
3️⃣ Ongoing Care (2–3 Weeks)
Wash, dry, and moisturize 2–3 times a day.
No submerging the tattoo for the entire healing process — showers only.
A little flaking or shine is normal.
Avoid direct sunlight and don’t pick or scratch.
